Ser Familia tell the story of two women who exposed their private lives to public scrutiny in their struggle for recognition of the validity of their family on the island of Puerto Rico. The two women, Mili Vélez and Angie Acosta, confronted a legal and social system that denied Angie’s ability to adopt the daughter she and Mili had raised together from birth. In doing so, these two very private people became the public faces and voices of others seeking respect and recognition of this basic fundamental core of society: La familia.
