Upon returning from the front, Ivan Lukich discovered that his wife had been unfaithful to him. He left her and their daughter. Later, Ivan attempted to locate them, but was unsuccessful. Years passed. He now has another family, grown children, and a grandson. Quite by chance, he encounters Lisa, his daughter, who is convinced that her father died at the front.
