World War II has just come to an end. At a center for the identification of prisoners of war, Lieutenant Graziani is being falsely accused of having ordered the execution of ten civilians. German Hagermann, captured along with Graziani by partisans during the days of the massacre, is the only one able to clear him from the accusations, but a secret he promised to keep prevents him from telling the truth until the very last minute.
