He was born on May 20, 1968, in Moscow. He studied directing at VGIK under Viktor Man. In 1999, he graduated from the Higher Courses for Scriptwriters and Directors (workshop of Alexander Mitta). Prior to his own directorial debut, he worked as a first assistant director on films by Mikhail Kozakov, Leonid Maryagin, and Vladimir Grammatikov. He made his film debut in 2006 with *Listening to the Silence* (*Slushaya tishinu*), based on a screenplay by Natalia Nazarova.
