Karl got his start in the film business, traveling the globe shooting ski films for famed ski film producer Warren Miller. This brought him to Hollywood, where he got a job as the assistant to Oscar-winning VFX cameraman Wally Gentleman BSC (2001: A Space Odyssey), working on Francis Ford Coppola's One From The Heart.
