In the United States, he is known for playing Kareem Saïd in the HBO television series OZ, for which he won a CableACE Award, and Chief Wallace Boden on NBC's Chicago Fire. He also starred as Rev. Ephram Samuels on Kings and as Terence 'Edge' Edgecomb on The Whole Truth.
